Whether it’s dip netting on the Copper or Kenai Rivers, splitting wood at his cabin in Homer, picking blueberries at Arctic Valley or raising his child in a supportive community of East Anchorage, Bill Wielechowski has always felt blessed by all that Alaska has to offer.

With high energy costs on the mind of all Alaskans, in 2010 Senator Wielechowski championed the Alaska Sustainable Energy Act. This legislation established a statewide energy policy that recognizes the importance of Alaska’s fossil fuel resources but also identifies Alaska’s vast renewable energy potential and provides the tools to move Alaska toward a more sustainable future. For these efforts he was recognized as a Legislator of the Year by the Alaska Power Association.
